EJIA MISSION STATEMENT:
One of the main problems our society is currently dealing with is climate change. People of color and those who experience socioeconomic inequality are particularly impacted by climate change. As you can see, the United States is a very multicultural country, making it possible to ignore how the current issue affects people from various racial and ethnic groups. EJIA is a website that will inform and bring awareness to the environmental issues that communities of color face as well as the actions done to overcome the current inequalities., specifically for the Massachusetts Population
What is Environmental Justice?
Environmental justice is a social justice movement that aims to ensure that everyone has the right to a clean and healthy environment, regardless of color, ethnicity, or income.

In Boston
A classic example of environmental injustice is the classic story of environmental racism in Boson.
In the 1930s, there was an active practice of redlining in the region when the Home Owner’s Loan Corporation (HOLC) made maps that color-coded how 'safe' the neighborhood would be for federally-backed loans.
With ongoing discriminatory practices, such as race-based 'restrictive covenants,' blockbusting, and zoning laws, communities of color and lower resources became more centralized in certain regions.
Over time, with increased urbanization, these regions have been significantly exposed to highways, industry, and municipal solid waste. To view such impacts, we encourage you to interact with these maps created by Harvard Chan-NIEHS Center for Environmental Health.
